Anyone else having this problem? They are building on one of the lots behind my house and the yard obviously has no sod down at this point. However, with all the rain we've had all the mud is literally flowing onto one side of my yard....basically creating a little swamp all along one side. It even goes quite a ways up into the front yard between my house and my neighbor's.
I can't mow there, but most of the grass is submerged anyways. Where there is enough grass to mow it leaves brown track marks where the mower ran over the mud and churned it up. They have the black material up to try and prevent the mud from flowing but it's bulged up and overflowing. I don't know if there is anything I can even do about it.... Anyone else having this problem? Is it something I can call Hearthstone about, or am I just hosed until they get sod on that lot? |

Are you hosed? Yes. Until the sod gets put down anyway.
Can you call hearthstone. You bet your ass. Have them put up a new or fix existing silt fence. Then have them repair your lawn!!! I would be soooo pissed. We have a similar problem, while not nearly as bad as yours sounds. Our side and back yard are just swamps. Just poor planning causes this mess. I hate it.

I sent an email off to Hearthstone yesterday along with some pictures of the specific areas. We'll see if they get back to me. I'll post whatever I get.

Hearthstone is coming out this Friday to take a look at the situation and see if they will need to replace anything or if there's anything they can do in the way of prevention. In the meantime, I stare uncomfortably out the window at the menacing storm clouds outside. *sigh*

Hearthstone stopped out on Friday. They are going to fix the existing silt barrier (the black fabric fence deal) that had fallen down and add more to prevent more mud seepage....or at least slow it down considerably I hope. He also said they would be back in July to replace the sod if necessary.
They're pretty close to finishing the house on that lot so hopefully they'll get sod down pretty quick. |

Stand your ground on the sod if it's ruined. They take a very nonchalant stance on the sod they use. The way they see it they're doing you a favor by putting it in.

Just to keep everyone up to date. Hearthstone apparently came out this afternoon and removed the damaged sod. They didn't put any new sod down but I assume they are going to do that tomorrow. It's about 10 days after they said they'd be here, but I'll take it.

They finally replaced the sod in our yard and it looks good. They've got sod down on all the lots behind our house, so hopefully we've seen the end of this. If anyone else has this problem I encourage you to contact Hearthstone and let them know.
